Yellow - By Erika and Averi

At 16 years old, a teenager had a child and named her daughter Yellow. And now I am 16 years old, and sadly my name is Yellow.

“Yellow! Are you in there? You’re going to miss the bus!” shouted out my BFF Rachel.

“One sec, Rach!” I reply, rushing around the kitchen. I hate slept late, and now I looked like a monster. With frizzy hair.

Rachel came walking through my front door, and when she saw me, she snorted a laugh.

“That’s a new look for you, Yellow” she giggled.

“Shut up” I muttered as I looked around for some on-the-go breakfast. I grabbed a box that said “Raspberry Pop Tarts” and a box that said “Blueberry Pop Tarts.” I help up both boxes and thought.

“Definitely blueberry.” I grabbed a blueberry pop tart and walked to the toaster. I unwrapped the silver wrapper and put the pop tart in the toaster. When it was done I put it on a napkin and grabbed my bag. Then Rachel and I ran to the bus stop.

“Hey Ry” I said to my best guy friend.

“Hey, what’s up?” Ry replied.

“Uh, I forgot a jacket” I muttered. “Can I borrow yours?”

“Sure.” I took it in my hands and draped it over my shoulders. It was a couple sizes too big for me, but it still felt warm and comfortable.

“Um, Ry, I really need to talk to you, Rachel” Ry said.

“Ok.” Rachel leaned in to Ry and all I could hear was, “So when are you going to tell –” And then the rest of the sentence was cut off.

Suddenly, the bus came roaring up to us, and Ry stopped talking. We got on and I sat in the middle of Rachel and Ry.

Then Rachel whispered to me, “So do you like Ry?”

“No way!” I said, but I began to blush when Ry looked over at me. His eyes were kind of dreamy. I pushed the thought out of my head and leaned back. We were almost to school.

Chapter 2

Milkshakes

I was dozing off in class, just thinking about all the things that had happened this morning.

“Yellow. Yellow. Yellow!” shouted a voice.

“What?” I cried as I just up in my seat.

“What is the answer to this problem?” asked the teacher. I couldn’t see the board,

so I leaned over out of my chair. But then I slipped and was about to fall on my face when I felt strong hands on my back. I looked up. It was Ry. I jumped up as fast as possible and looked at the board.

“120, 503” I answered, and Ry smiled at me. I began to blush.

“Correct.” Ding! “Class dismissed.” I walked to my locker, and then looked at Ry. His locker was right next to mine, and Monica’s was right across the hall.

“Hey, want to go get some milkshakes?” Ry asked me. I began to blush like crazy, and snapped my head toward Rachel. She nodded, so I said yes, and we walked down the hall. (School was over, we weren’t skipping it or anything.)

We walked across the street, ordered at the milkshake place, and sat down.

“So what was Rachel talking about at the bus stop?” I asked as casually as I could. His cheeks turned red.

But before he could answer, he checked his watch.

“Whoa, it’s 4:00 already! I have to go!” and before I had anything to say about it, he went running out of the store, leaving me staring after him.

“Wait!” I called, but it was no use. He probably already pulled out. I decided I would look desperate if I had two milkshakes and only me, so I took one last sip and dumped mine in the trash.

But as I started to walk through the parking lot, I saw something that I never though I would see before. I saw Ry and Rachel leaning on Ry’s car, whispering stuff to one another. Rachel grinned and tossed her hair, something she always did when she liked a guy, and Ry was staring at her like she was the Italian sports car he had been wanting.

Rachel whispered something to him, and then Ry did the weirdest thing. He leaned in and hugged her. And now I know that they are kind of friends because of me, but I didn’t know they liked each other that much!

Then, as if everything couldn’t get any weirder, I felt tears coming down my face. I mean, was it because I liked Ry? Oh my god, Rachel and I liked the same guy! This was a disaster! Usually we don’t go for the same guys! And then I wiped my tears away and ran across the parking lot.

Because my car was right next to his, I had to go right next to them if I even wanted to get in. So I blinked my eyes a couple of times, and then I rushed over to my yellow car.

When Ry and Rachel saw my coming over, they pushed each other away and pretended to just see each other.

“Go figure!” Rachel cried out a bit too enthusiastically. “All three of us here, right now! I just got here! Well, see you guys later!” I began to cry even harder and rushed into my car.

“Wait, Yellow” Ry said, but I zoomed out. I couldn’t talk to him right now.

“Yellow!” my mom called. “Ry is on the phone, and he really needs to talk to you!” I sighed and dropped my magazine. I clicked the speaker button on the phone in my room.

“Mom, you can hang up now” I said, and when I her hang up, I glared at the phone. “What?” I snapped.

“Why did you rush out of the milkshake place so early?” Ry asked. He sounded worried.

“Me? You’re the one who freaked out when it was 4:00!” I replied. I wasn’t going to tell him that I knew about him and Rachel. I decided to keep that to myself for now.

“Listen, Yellow, I just had an appointment, ok?” he said. Oh, god. Ry had never lied to me before, but now he was lying to my face.

“Ry, listen. I have a lot of homework to do, and I really can’t talk now. I’ll see you at school tomorrow.” I hung up before Ry could say anything else, and then I called Rachel. Maybe I could get something out of her. I dialed her number and waited while it rang.

“Hello?” Rachel’s happy voice greeted me, and it almost made me forget why I was calling her.

“Rach? It’s Yellow. Can you come over? Maybe we can do homework or something.”

“Sure! I’ll drive over in 2 minutes.” I hung up with a sigh. If Ry wouldn’t give me any information, then Rachel definitely wouldn’t help me. But I could still try.

“Ding” went the doorbell. My mom answered it and I heard footsteps coming up the stairs. Then my door opened.

“Hey, Yellow” Rachel said when she saw me.

“Hi” I replied, and began to pack up my magazines.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“Well, I was actually hoping that we could maybe walk to Starbucks and have a girl talk there. So you can just leave your homework here, ok?” Rachel smiled and nodded. She helped me pack up more magazines, and then we went out the door.

At Starbucks, we settled down in the fuzzy chairs with a huge pile of magazines and two hot chocolates each. (I really wanted her to tell me what was going on.)

“So, Rach” I said, and she set down her magazine.

“What’s up?” she asked.

“Well…have you seen any cute guys out there lately?” I asked off the top of my head.

“Uh…well…not really” she replied. “How about you?” You have no idea, I thought.

“Well, I did see one guy…” I began.

“Omigod, is it that really hot guy from our English class?” Rachel cried, suddenly excited.

“Uh, yeah, sure” I replied, and Rachel squealed.

“I can totally get you two together!” she exclaimed.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, Rach, let’s not get carried away” I said to her. I didn’t even know what guy she was talking about!

“Well you see, I have a friend who is, like, best friends with him, and I could totally hook you two up!” She grinned at me, and I forced up a smile. “Great, thanks” I said to her.

And as I sipped my hot chocolate, I knew that this was so totally not the girl talk I was looking for.

She was about to start talking more about the guy (I’m her best friend, I can just tell), when I interrupted her.

“But Rach, enough about me. Why don’t we talk about you! Do you like Ry?” I knew I was jumping into this subject really quickly, but she wasn’t opening up! And if she wouldn’t open up about Ry, I was going to pull it out her.

“What? Omigod, Yellow, I would never do that to you! Besides, it would be really weird…for all of us, you know.” I sighed. She was lying to my face.

“Well…I mean, you know you can tell me anything, right? So come on…who do you seriously like?”

Rachel smiled at me. “I think I like this guy from PE…” I squealed. Ry was in that class!!! “…So his name is George, and he’s really hot” she continued, and I sighed. Her telling me about Ry was a lost cause.

“Rach, please, I just really need to know who you actually like. I can tell that you’re hiding something” I said. Rachel looked stricken.

“What are you talking about?” she asked. “Why would I lie to you? You’re my best friend!”

“I know” I said with a sigh. “I just wish you would tell me what’s going on.”

“What’s going on with what?” she started to laugh hysterically “I love you Yellow, you’re so funny” she said in a babyish voice.

Hand-Me-Downs - By Erika and Averi

I, Hanna was just a regular girl...Except one thing. The only new things I got were hand-me-downs. It was horrible for me because I was always wearing last years styles. At first, everyone laughed at me as I walked by, but now they're just used to it. And after 16 years, you'd think it would've changed, but no, it hasn't yet. So here I am again, walking through the hall, with what used to be last years fashion.
"Wow, I didn't know 80's fashion was in!" the mean girl, Shelbey, exclaimed when she saw
my plaid skirt and sequined top.
"Yeah, and I thought only people over the age of 90 could shop at the grandma's clothing
store" her best friends, Stacy and Liz added, looking specifically at my sequined shirt.
"Actually, sequins are everything they're selling at Forever 21" my best friend,
Rachel, said, coming up behind me.
"Omigosh, really?" Stacy and Liz looked at each other and squealed. "We need to go
shopping!"
"Oh, please, girls" Shelbey said with a scoff. "She's just trying to make her look
better. Not working!" Stacy and Liz burst into laughter until Shelbey held up her hand,
silencing them.
I rolled my eyes. "Come on, Rach, let's just go" I whispered, starting to turn away.
Rachel was my best friend, and had been since 1st grade (and now we were in 10th
grade), and she had always been by my side while I wore ugly clothes.
"One sec, Hanna. Let me just try something." She turned to Shelbey and her peeps.
"I bet you $300 that there are sequins in Forever 21" Rachel challenged. Shelbey
smirked.
"You're on! I have $600 in my purse anyways" she added, flipping her hair.
"Great! Let's go!" Shelbey led the way out the door, with Stacy and Liz close on her
tail. Once they were gone, I turned to Rachel.
"How do you know there are sequins in Forever 21?" I exclaimed. "Sequins went
out of style, like, 4 years ago!"
"Just trust me" she replied mysteriously, and then began to type on her cell phone.
"My sister works at Forever 21, and she has a shift there right now. So I'm texting her
to tell her to put some random sequins in the windows and hang them on stuff to
make it looks like we were right! Trust me." Rachel began to type, and then she
pressed SEND, looking satisfied. I laughed and pulled her into class.

When we got into the class, our teacher, Mr. Bowman, got mad when he realized
that Shelbey, Stacy and Liz weren't here.
"Does anyone know where they are?" he boomed. I raised my hand innocently.
"Yes, Miss Hanna?" he growled. "Do you know where they are?"
"I heard them talking about ditching class to go to Forever 21" I whispered. "How
horrible!" I bit my lip to keep from laughing.
"Well class, guess what? We're taking a trip to the mall!" Everyone screamed with
joy and we all grabbed our backpacks and rushed out the door.
"We will all take separate cabs in whatever groups you want, and we will all meet
outside of Forever 21, got it?" Everyone cheered in response. (At least all the girls did.)
Rachel and I got into a cab and told the driver where to take us. As we drove, I
turned to her. "This is turing into the best school day ever!" I exclaimed. "I mean, first,
you get Shelbey and her peeps in trouble, and then we get to go to the mall! I needed
to go shopping anyways. I mean, have you seen my clothes?" I groaned.
"But Hanna, your mom doesn't let you shop, remember? She always makes you
take the old clothes from the charity places and from your sister because she doesn't
want to spend money! Did that just fly out of your head?" I began to seethe. You see,
my sister is a Senior in high school now, and she has always gotten to buy the new,
cute clothes from all the cool stores. But I have to just take her hand-me-downs,
which are always out of style when she is done with them, and they all have holes and
stuff in them! I was finally going to just break my mom's rules for once.
"You know what? Who cares! I'm going to buy whatever I want now! We're going
everywhere, okay? Nordstrom, Abercrombie, Hollister, Forever 21, and that new store
that I forgot what it's called! I need to get some cute clothes! I am sick of being the
out-of-style, ugly girl! I need to change my reputation, Rach, and you're going to
help me!" Rachel blew out a sigh, then laughed. "Sure, I'll help you. How much money
do you have with you?"
Well, because I never spend anything, I have about $800" I said with a smile. "And
it's all going to be spent - today!" I grinned. "Let's hope Shelbey and her peeps aren't
easy to find - I need some time to shop!" We hopped out of the cab as it pulled up at
the curb, and we ran into the mall. Forever 21 was closest, so we went there first. We
grabbed everything in my size that was cute and plopped it into my basket.
Once we had basically everything in the store, I checked out and spend $300.
"Ok, this is great! I'm going to look adorable for the rest of my Sophomore year,
and then I get to go shopping again! This is fabulous. Now onto Abercrombie!"
"Wait, Hanna. Think about what you're doing" Rachel said, stopping me. I stared
at her. "Getting cute clothes...Is there a problem?" I was getting really annoyed now.
I had a limited amount of time, and Rachel was wasting it with a pep-talk! "Rach, let's
get going! Once the principal gets here and finds Shelbey, we have to go. So hurry up!"
I grabbed my bags and began to walk away. But she grabbed my shoulder and turned
me around. "Hanna. Seriously! Don't spend all of the money that you saved on clothes!
I mean, you could do so much better. Sure, you want to look cute. Now you do! So let's
go put this extra money in the bank or something - save it for college! Please don't
waste your life on clothes." She looked at me with pleading eyes.
"Oh god" I groaned. "You're just like my mother! Oh, you have extra money? Put
it in the bank! No way! I'm going to spend it wherever I want it, and if you don't want
to be a part of that, then fine. Leave! Go buy some luggage or something!" I whirled
around and began to speed-walk away.
"Ok, fine, Hanna" Rachel said, out of breath from running up to me. "You can
spend that money wherever you want. And i'll be by your side the whole time, I
promise." She smiled at me loyally.
"Thanks, Rach! But as touching as this is, we need to hurry!" I grabbed her hand
and we went laughing down the mall.

When we we were done shopping, we checked inside Sephora, just to make sure
we didn't miss anything good. Then, I laughed and pointed to...our principal! He was
going crazy - putting on eye-shadow, eye-liner, mascara, blush, lip gloss, lip stick...
even lip liner!
"Have I tried on everything yet?" he exclaimed to the cashier in a girly voice.
"Oh my gosh...sparkles!" He grabbed the containers of all different colored sparkley
eye-liner and put them in his basket. "Everything please!"

Bubbles - By Erika and Averi

Bubbles was my fish that I had to deal with since my mom wouldn’t let me get a dog or any thing else. I watched it swim back and forth, and every now and then it would look at me and dart back into its palace. I heard a vibration come from my phone. It was my best friend Lilly.
Lilly: So what did you get at the pet store?
Anna: A fish! A stinking slimy fish!
Lilly: It's not really that bad!
Anna: A fish? Really, I hate slimy things!
Lilly: Well maybe it will do a flip or something.
“Anna! It's time for dinner!" my mom called.
"Coming!"

Anna: I have to go eat dinner.
Lilly: Bye!

I went in and ate dinner.
A while later, I came back upstairs to my room to do my homework. As I worked on it, I eyed my dark orange fish out of the corner of my eye. I finally just set down my pencil and walked over to it.
“Just do a flip or something! Come on!"
The fish swam to the top of the water waited a little while. Then, 10 seconds later, it spouted out of the bowl and did a small flip! Just barely, but still! My mouth fell open wide.

Anna: OMG Lilly!!!
Lilly: What????
Anna: It did a flip!!! I told it to and it jumped out of the bowl and did it!!!!!

Blue - By Erika and Averi

Chapter 1: Starbucks

"Blue! Wake up! You can't be sleeping late again, can you?" I groaned and slowly opened my blue eyes. I looked around my blue room and sighed. Everything in my room is blue, except for some of my clothes.
My walls, door, bookcase, desk, drawers, and my bedspread are all a deep blue. Hi. I'm Blue. And yes, that's my name. It sucks, I know.
And I slept late again.
"Blue!" my mom came storming into my room and gasped when she saw me still in my bed. "Blue! You need to be t the buss stop right this second! Did your alarm not go off again?"
"No mom I just dint hear it again"
"Blue I need to get to work now get up" I grabbed a blue t-shirt and jeans that didn't smell that bad. Then I put my hair up and put on a black puffy jacket.

I grabbed my bag and ran down stairs. When I reached the kitchen my mom handed me a piece of toast with a smiley face. And gave me a kiss
I gave her one back and smiled. Then I ran onto the bus and sat by this girl who was my sort of my friend then I handed her my homework.
"This is the last time" she murmured.
"Ohmygosh, thank you! I love you and owe you one." I hugged her and ran out the emergency door in the back of the bus. Then I hid behind a tree and watched my mom drive away. I grinned once she was out of sight. Starbucks time .I ran through the park and up a big hill then I saw a car that looked like my moms but no the bumper sticker was wrong it said 45la3 or was it 45l3a oh never mind I ran the hill and ran into star bucks out of air.
“My usual” I said and sat down in my normal spot. Then I grabbed my mocha when it was time
“Oh sorry maa’m I mom”
“Blue what are you doing here get that drink in the garbage! You can’t be late again to school”
“Mom I was getting my teacher a drink she told me to”
“Oh well then I suppose you need your money back”
“Ya um I going to need it fast”
“Bye sweety”
“Bye mom all have the usual I said again”
“The usual my mom said as she turned around what usual”
‘Oh u… the teacher comes here and always gets the usual”
“Oh ok” my mom was like a little kid - she will believe anything you say.
